Ministry for Science and Technology installed the first Cherenkov water detector in Mérida

On the occasion of the LAGO Venezuela Meeting, this Friday the installation of the country's first Cherenkov water detector began at the National Astronomical Observatory (OAN), located in Llano del Hato, Mérida state. The initiative, promoted by the National Government through the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT), positions the nation at the forefront of astrophysical research by allowing the study of cosmic rays and space phenomena from the Cidata research center.

The scientific milestone is consolidated after rigorous days of technical work and collaboration between national and international specialists led by Dr. Luis Otiniano, from the Peruvian Space Agency, who successfully verified the operation of the photomultiplier tube, a key component of the device. For his part, the president of Cidata, Dr. Walter Espinoza, celebrated the progress achieved and reaffirmed the commitment of the Venezuelan scientific sector to continue strengthening technological sovereignty and the development of astronomical sciences in the country.
