More than 120,000 families affected or affected by snowfall and rain in Bolivia

The Vice Ministry of Civil Defense of Bolivia presented a balance sheet on the impact caused by snowfall, rains, floods and strong winds in six of the country's nine departments, leaving together more than 120,000 families affected or affected.

According to the entity, since August 11, heavy snowfall has affected 82,728 families and left 20,760 families affected. This occurs in the departments of Potosí, Oruro, La Paz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Tarija.

In addition, damage was reported to 28,799 hectares of crops and 209,143 head of cattle, of which 376 were lost. In total, 46 municipalities and 1,273 communities in the six departments were impacted.

With regard to rains and floods, they have been concentrated in La Paz, Potosí and Cochabamba. The Deputy Ministry of Civil Defense specified that 11,144 families were affected and 2,091 affected, with damage to 16 municipalities and 153 communities.

In addition, strong winds occurred in eight municipalities and 87 communities in Potosí, where 3,227 families were affected and 1,022 injured, as well as one person who died.

Local media have reported that the current weather conditions facing the country are part of a scenario that has begun to affect different regions simultaneously, with snowfall in high altitude areas and heavy rainfall in other areas.
