Naryury Pérez wins gold in weightlifting at the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games

Venezuelan weightlifter Naryury Pérez offered an impeccable demonstration of strength and technique to win the gold medal in the 86-kilogram division of the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games.

At the start , Pérez lifted 116, 119 and 121 kg, overcoming his closest rival, the Brazilian Taiane Justino de Lima, who reached 116 kg. In the season, the Creole opened with 145 kg and secured the title with 149 kg, to accumulate an Olympic total of 270 kg, compared to 263 kg for Justino de Lima and 246 kg for the Ecuadorian María Ayoví, who ranked second and third, respectively.

Pérez's victory sealed a finishing touch for the Venezuelan delegation, which finished second best in the championship, with seven gold medals, three silver and one bronze.

The Colombian team topped the medal table with the same number of golds, but with the highest number of silvers (5) and one bronze, while Ecuador ranked third with one gold, two silver and four bronze.

This result reaffirms Venezuela as a regional powerhouse in weightlifting and projects Naryury Pérez as one of the greatest exponents of South American sports.
