This Monday, Gilles Bertrand, the new designated ambassador of the European Union to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, arrived at the “Simon Bolivar” International Airport in Maiquetía, in the state of La Guaira, to promote mutual understanding and deepen bilateral cooperation under a framework of respect for sovereignty.

The diplomat was received by the director general for Europe of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Nelson Totesaut, and by the chargé d'affaires of the Delegation of the European Union in Caracas, Pierre - Henri Helleputte.

Through his account on the social network X, Bertrand confirmed his transfer to the Venezuelan capital after completing his international itinerary and stopping in Bogotá, the city where he served as Head of Mission of the European representation to the Government of Colombia during the period 2021-2025.

“This is how diplomatic life goes. This morning I visited my dear Bogotá, where I had the honor of being Ambassador of the European Union in 2021-25, to assume my new position in the beautiful neighboring country: Venezuela. New country, new challenges, same enthusiasm!” , wrote the French diplomat.

On this same day, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, appointed Raúl Li Causi as the new ambassador to the European Union, as well as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, attending the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
