The pentathletes Albert Rivas and Neiverson Quintana won silver medals at the XIII South American Games Santa Fe 2026, completing a balanced performance across the four disciplines, accumulating a total of 1,475 points to climb to the second step of the podium.

The road to the medal began with a masterful performance in the fencing test, where the Venezuelan delegation dominated the track after recording a balance of 23 wins and 13 losses, taking first place in the category with 250 units.

The strength continued in the obstacle course, where the Venezuelan team scored the second best time overall with a record of 0:51.88 to add 350 crucial points to the cumulative table.

Final stretch

In the decisive stage of the competition, the national squad maintained their agile pace in the pool where they contributed 324 points by stopping the stopwatch at 0:55.38, reserving the best of their physical rest for the Laser Run.

In the combined shooting and running test, they secured the silver metal with a time of 13:02.58 that gave him 551 points, keeping the final attack of the Brazilian delegation at bay.

With this result, the South American podium was led by Ecuador with the gold medal after accumulating 1,490 points, while Venezuela was left with a brilliant second place (1,475 points) to claim silver, relegating Brazil to bronze with 1,467 units.

Total motivation

The pentathlete Rivas said that the bronze medal obtained in his individual event motivated him to go out looking for gold this Thursday.

“After winning bronze in the individual, I was left wanting more, and when I went out to compete with my partner, I was more determined, riskier, to go for everything. Although we are 14 seconds behind gold for details, we are very happy with the performance and the result,” said Rivas.
