Peru: Mayor of Coracora rules out victims and evaluates possible damage after the earthquake

The mayor of Coracora, Yony Odón, reported that there were no fatalities or significant damage after the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that shook the Ayacucho region. According to preliminary reports issued by local authorities, the initial picture is one of peace of mind, although emergency teams remain deployed in the area, Telesur published.

Despite the positive balance, the burgomaster clarified that damage to the structures located in the north of the town is not ruled out. The authority explained that in the jurisdiction, houses made of noble material coexist with traditional structures of adobe and calamine, the latter being more vulnerable to large seismic movements.

Faced with this situation, a multisectoral commission mobilized to the right sectors to carry out technical verification in the field. The inspection will make it possible to accurately determine the state of the housing infrastructure and consolidate the damage assessment report in the province of Parinacochas.
