During the closing session of the Extraordinary Consistory of Cardinals at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV expressed his closeness and that of the entire Church to the people of Venezuela, affected by a double violent earthquake on June 24.
Faced with the event that, to date, has left 1,430 dead, thousands injured and disappeared under the rubble, the pontiff raised his prayer for the victims and their families, who are suffering the consequences of the tragedy in Venezuela.
In this regard, he called for “no lack of solidarity on the part of the international community with this dear nation”.
Pope Leo XIV said: “I want to express our solidarity, mine and that of the entire College of Cardinals with the population of Venezuela, severely affected by the violent earthquake of these days.”
The supreme pontiff said his prayers for the victims, their families and the rescue teams, while channeling a first financial support of 100,000 euros through the Apostolic Almsgiving to help meet priority needs in Venezuela.
