Popular Communicator Day: The People Break the Media Siege in Defense of the Homeland

Every April 12, Venezuela celebrates the Day of the Communicating People, because of the courage and loyalty of men and women who took to the streets to learn about the events of the coup against Commander Hugo Chávez in April 2002. The efficiency and organization of the people combated the country's big networks around private television stations, who censored the truth that Commander Chávez was kidnapped and had not resigned.

The National Assembly (AN) during its administration in 2015, declared through an agreement that April 12 will be commemorated as the Day of the Popular Communicator.

“The people broke the conspiratorial communication fence during the coup d'etat. This agreement is a recognition of popular communicators who are still fighting,” said patriot deputy Darío Vivas at the time, who presented this proposal that emerged from the National Council for Popular Communication.

With the arrival of the Revolution, more than 240 radio stations, 50 television stations and at least 300 popular and community newspapers, which break with the media war on a daily basis.
