The president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, highlighted this Thursday international solidarity as a legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez with the creation of the Dr. Gilberto Rodríguez Ochoa Children's Cardiological Hospital, on August 20, 2006.

“The more than 15,400 boys and girls who have been operated on, young people, adolescents who have life, can rescue the concept of Commander Hugo Chávez in the opening and conception of this hospital,” said the president in charge during the celebration of the 20th anniversary of this important health center.

He stressed that Commander Chávez “conceived it as a hospital for international solidarity, for boys and girls to come from other countries that did not have possibilities and resources in their countries or expertise, who would come to Venezuela to receive the love of the Venezuelan people.”

He emphasized that this hospital is the legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez, “what should be the relationship between peoples, brotherhood, cooperation and having more than 15,400 boys and girls who have successfully emerged from such complex surgery derived from heart disease is truly commendable,” he said.

In this regard, he praised the work of doctors, nurses, technicians, and bioanalysts, “because you should know that in the toughest moments of the economic sanctions against Venezuela where one of the main victims was public health, you came to the Cardiological Hospital and you could see it on the floor, it was a mirror, it still is, but there was the effort, the commitment of a country that says, 'I'm not going to give up in the face of a blockade or in the face of sanctions'. There was the commitment of a dedicated staff to saving the lives of children.”
