President of Palestine at the UN demands an end to the occupation and promotes a just peace

During the 81st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), the President of Palestine, Mahmud Abbas, made an urgent call on member States to abide by international law to put an end to aggression and build real peace in the region. In his speech, the president maintained that “there will be no peace without justice, and there will be no justice without the liberation of Palestine”, while demanding immediate guarantees for the protection of his people.

During his speech, Abbas denounced the constant violations committed by the Israeli regime and questioned the international community's inaction in the face of non-compliance with the regulations of the global forum. The Palestinian dignitary directly rebuked the plenary, asking: “Why aren't sanctions imposed for ignoring and violating international resolutions, as is the case with other countries in the world? Why are double standards practiced and is it accepted that Israel is a state above the law?”

In this context, the Palestinian leader repudiated the policies of segregation, the continued territorial annexation and the actions of extremist groups in the occupied territories. On this point, the head of state stated that “the accelerated expansion of illegal settlements, settler terrorism and a system of laws based on discrimination on the part of Israel” systematically undermine the self-determination and sovereignty of the Palestinian people.

Abbas emphasized that stability in the region requires the definitive cessation of the occupation and the full recognition of his country's national rights. “All those who claim to support peace must recognize the State of Palestine fully and immediately,” the president concluded, urging the Security Council to grant the nation the status of a full member without conditions.
