President of Suriname highlights scope of agreements and strategic solidarity with Venezuela

The President of the Republic of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, highlighted the significant increase in agricultural and industrial production in her nation in the signing of bilateral agreements reached during the recent official visit of the Venezuelan president, Delcy Rodríguez, which promote economic sovereignty and strategic integration between both South American peoples.

On the significance of the high-level diplomatic meeting, the Surinamese head of state emphasized that “it is important to highlight the signing of two agreements, four distinctions and three marks of collaboration and a joint declaration, elements that provide more content to our collaborations and constitute the basis for full monitoring”, placing special emphasis on the sustainable development established in the fisheries agreement.

Regarding the area of technical and industrial training, the dignitary specified that higher education, knowledge exchange and specialized training will be key axes for the region's growth. In this regard, he stated that “special attention has been paid to courses that align with the development of the oil and gas line”, adding that “in our economies, relations must be more about the close political and diplomatic collaboration that exists between our countries, focusing more on trade, investment and concrete forms of cooperation”.

In addition, the president reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the common agenda through the sixth mechanism of binational political consultations and expressed the fraternity of her people in the face of the environmental contingency experienced in the Bolivarian nation. “On behalf of the people and Government, we express our solidarity and condolences following the earthquakes that occurred in our sister and neighboring nation; at this difficult time we give our support and strengthen our bilateral relations,” concluded President Geerlings-Simons.
