The international news channel Press TV denounced as an arbitrary arrest the arrest of its Palestinian-American correspondent, Naqaa Hamed, after being intercepted by Israeli occupying forces at a military checkpoint located near Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank.
Through an official statement, the media rejected military action and described it as part of a systematic strategy aimed at censoring news coverage in the region. The network also noted that the communication professional had been the victim of previous physical assaults and harassment campaigns on digital platforms before her capture.
Despite the demands made by the journalist's legal representation, an Israeli military court ruled to extend her detention until September 23. Faced with this measure, the management of Press TV urgently called on the United Nations (UN) and international organizations for the protection of journalism to speak out on the case and demand the immediate release of the reporter.
