Prime Minister of Barbados: “The time has come to make our solidarity more tangible”

The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, together with the president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, inspected the field hospital installed by the Caribbean nation in Guarenas, Miranda state, to provide comprehensive medical care to families affected by the recent earthquakes in the region.

During the day, Mottley expressed his country's commitment to emergency care and displaced people. “From the first moment we heard about the earthquake, we were in very close contact because we knew the difficulties they are facing and all the challenges, not only with the loss of life but with the displacement of people who lost everything they have,” said the head of the Caribbean government, who said: “We have the presence of this hospital here where we have been able to treat almost 2,700 patients and carry out almost 73 operations.”

In diplomatic matters, the president valued the performance of the Barbadian delegation and confirmed the will to move forward from energy cooperation to projects with direct socio-economic impact. “We know that the time has come when we can deepen and do our solidarity and our continuous work in a more tangible way in everything that has to do with agriculture, food sovereignty, air and maritime transport, as well as with education,” he emphasized.

Regarding academic alliances, the Prime Minister confirmed her interest in boosting the exchange of teachers for teaching English and Spanish. “In January 2027, we hope to move forward with exchanges of teachers between languages and to also make sure that we take the forecasts so that students who have already left the school system can come and train here with the most professional language,” he explained.

To conclude, Mottley urged to consolidate the bilateral relationship by working together on behalf of both nations. “We know that we are not going to agree on everything all the time, but we can bring well-being to our peoples,” he said.
