During the opening of the 81st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), the president of the multilateral organization, Khalilur Rahman, stated that having prevented a third armed conflict on a global scale constitutes the institution's greatest historic success.
Rahman emphasized that, beyond the criticisms and uncertainties of international diplomacy, the UN has been decisive in preserving global stability and championing human milestones. In that regard, he urged the delegations present to regain confidence in multilateralism and to undertake the necessary reforms with pragmatism and inclusion to address emerging challenges.
The senior official said that the search for peace is the most practical and necessary task on the international stage. He also warned of the new threats of the 21st century, such as climate crises, the militarization of space and uncontrolled technologies, pointing out that the only way to guarantee a future of development and stability is the joint work of nations.
