Rains aggravate the emergency in Pereira after the earthquake

The rainfall recorded on Sunday night deteriorated the conditions of those affected by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that hit the city of Pereira, Colombia, on August 10, local sources confirmed.

In Olaya Herrera Park, where one of the main temporary care points is concentrated, residents improvised plastic covers over official tents to prevent damage to their equipment and mitigate water entry.

In parallel, the San Jorge University Hospital reported leaks, breakdowns in the drainage system and water accumulation in different sectors of the building, although the administration of the healthcare center has not yet quantified the total impact of the rains on the infrastructure already compromised by the earthquake.
