Russia reiterates willingness to dialogue on Ukraine but demands to stop NATO expansion

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, reiterated Moscow's willingness to seek compromises to reach a negotiated solution to the conflict in Ukraine, under the non-negotiable premise of guaranteeing national security and preventing the deployment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) near its borders.

During his statements, the head of Russian diplomacy emphasized that the fundamental goals set since the beginning of the special military operation remain unchanged. However, the chancellor confirmed the existence of confidential communication channels with various European governments to evaluate possible avenues of understanding at the diplomatic level.

When referring to the geopolitical relationship with Washington, Lavrov categorically denied the versions of an alleged exchange of concessions with the United States (US) in relation to tensions in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. “There is no room for negotiations of that kind,” said the senior official, rejecting any pact that links the Ukrainian scenario with the crisis in Iran.

The Kremlin reaffirms its strategy of keeping channels of contact with international actors open, while confirming the firmness of its security requirements for the definitive resolution of hostilities.
