Santo Domingo Central American Games to honor mourning for tragedies in Venezuela and Guyana

The Venezuelan delegation will compete with a black crepe during the Santo Domingo (CAC) 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games due to the earthquake tragedy that grieves the nation, organizers of the event in the Dominican Republic said.

Likewise, the Guyanese flag will fly at half mast after the wreck of the MV Barima ferry, which occurred on July 18.

The president of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía Ovied, specified that the decision responds to requests made by the Olympic Committees of Venezuela and Guyana and was approved during the ordinary assembly of that body, held in this capital.

The director reported that the Venezuelan delegation was authorized to wear a black crepe on their uniforms in honor of the victims of the earthquake that shook that nation on June 24, while the Guyanese delegation requested permission to fly its flag at half mast.

The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games will be officially inaugurated this Friday in Santo Domingo, although several disciplines began their competitions four days before the opening ceremony.
