Seismic doublet of 5.2 and 5.7 was reported in Kermanshah province in western Iran

Two earthquakes of magnitude 5.2 and 5.7 were reported early Monday morning, in the province of Kermanshah, in western Iran, near the border with Iraq.

The first earthquake, of magnitude 5.2, had its epicenter 27 kilometers south of the town of Yavanrud, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Minutes later, a second earthquake of greater intensity, recorded at 5.7 degrees, occurred in the same jurisdiction, reported the United States Geological Survey (USGS)

So far, Iranian authorities have not reported fatalities, injuries or significant material damage as a result of the earthquakes.

Iran is located on several active geological faults, making it one of the countries with the highest seismic activity in the world.
