SERGIO RODRÍGUEZ JANSEN IS KILLED BY THE PM DURING DEMONSTRATIONS IN THE CENTER OF CARACAS

• On September 23, 1993, the 27-year-old cultural and sports leader Sergio Rodríguez Jansen was assassinated by agents of the Metropolitan Police (PM) of Caracas. He was a worker and a history student at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV).
• Sergio Rodríguez died at the Vargas Hospital, after being seriously injured on the corner of El Chorro. He was fatally shot in the right intercostal region.
• Yadira Pirela de Rodríguez, wife of the murdered, stated that “Sergio paid with his life the price of being a social and cultural leader on January 23, he was deliberately murdered, that was not an accidental event” (Latest News, 23/9/93)”.
• He also stated that Sergio Rodríguez was under constant surveillance and was executed by a PM agent, due to his association with the Bolivarian Revolutionary Movement 200 (MBR-200), his sporting, cultural and political activities on January 23.
• Rodríguez Jansen played an outstanding role during the events of February 4 (4F) and November 27 (27N) in 1992. As a member of the New Man Cultural Group, he brought his revolutionary message to many sectors during cultural meetings all over Venezuela.
• Another 23 people were shot and wounded during the protests for a fair budget for Higher Education and the release of the 4F and 27N military defendants, including two cameramen.
• The third month of the interim government of Ramón J. Velázquez passed, when this popular leader, committed to the Bolivarian cause, was shot dead.
• That day, Caracas was besieged by members of the Metropolitan Police (PM) and the Armed Forces. The Army closed the passage of urban and suburban roads to “avoid disorder” for thousands of people who came out to demonstrate peacefully.
• This clumsy and ill-advised government action degenerated into real urban chaos; when access roads to the city were closed, kilometers of cars blocked the Central Regional Highway via Caracas.
