Somalia and Türkiye agree to strengthen military cooperation for armed forces training

The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held a working meeting in the Somali capital with a high-level military delegation from the Türkiye Armed Forces, with the objective of consolidating the defense alliance and promoting tactical training programs for the military personnel of the African nation.
The Turkish representation was led by Brigadier General Sabahattin Kalkan, commander of the Turkish Military Training Center in Somalia (TURKSOM), accompanied by the military and naval attaché, Haldun Çetinarslan, and the newly appointed attaché of the Türkiye Air Force, Mehmet Serhan Yıldız.
During the bilateral talks, both sides addressed the development of operational skills, the technical training of troops and the optimization of the institutional capacities of the Somali National Army, within the framework of strategies to deal with the threats posed by armed insurgent groups operating in the region.
This meeting reaffirms the strategic alliance between Mogadishu and Ankara in the field of defense, a fundamental pillar for strengthening the national security infrastructure and the reconstruction of the Somali Armed Forces.
