Hundreds of teachers and workers in the education sector in Catalonia began a day of protest this Tuesday with traffic interruptions and temporary cuts in the main access arteries to Barcelona and various parts of the autonomous community.

As reported by the Telesur information network, dozens of teachers grouped in the strike movement blocked strategic routes in and out of the Catalan capital, as well as the metropolitan area, causing significant traffic jams and traffic congestion during the early hours of the morning.

In the city of Barcelona, the demonstrators concentrated their actions on several communication nodes before giving way to the union's central march, whose route was organized from Plaza Urquinaona until it culminated in Plaza de Sant Jaume, the institutional headquarters of the Government of Catalonia.

Faced with the spread of the protests, the Department of Business and Labor issued minimum service decrees to guarantee the operation of schools, which stipulate the presence of one member of the management team per campus and one teacher for every three classrooms at the levels of early childhood, primary and secondary education.

The call for a strike seeks to pressure regional administration authorities to achieve improvements in working conditions in the sector, the increase of teaching staff in classrooms and the restoration of budgetary rights in the public education system.
