Teachers start a 24-hour strike in Argentina

Argentine teachers began a 24-hour national strike this Monday, a measure that coincides with the return to classrooms after the winter break in districts such as the City and Province of Buenos Aires.

The Confederation of Education Workers called for the protest to demand the reopening of the national wage parity and the reinstatement of the National Teacher Incentive Fund, while demanding a new funding law to secure the school budget, Telesur reported.

The union questioned the attitude of the national government to the call for negotiation and warned of the fall in real wages in the sector.

In parallel, teacher unions aligned with the General Confederation of Labor will implement public classes and mobilizations in the country, although they chose not to suspend activities or join the general strike.
