The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, reported 111 dead and 87 injured by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake during the first official assessment from the Unified Command Post installed in the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
The president indicated that he maintains a deployed team deployed in the affected areas.
“I have given a peremptory order: the first thing is the rescue of people who are under the rubble. That's the priority,” he stressed.
The hospital network in Pereira, Manizales and Cali activated emergency protocols to treat hundreds of injured people with fractures, injuries and nervous breakdowns.
The Food Bank of Colombia established a humanitarian corridor to transport food, water and hygiene kits to affected families.
