The official death toll after the avalanche in Nepal rises to 903

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority in Nepal reported that the number of victims increased to 903 deaths after the mudslide caused by the overflow of the Bhote Koshi River in the district of Rasuwa, on the border with Tibet.

The institution noted that the event has so far left 4,047 missing and 267 injured, after the flooding of the river—caused by the collapse of a glacier on August 26—destroyed homes, roads, bridges, hydroelectric power plants and vehicles.

The Government deployed 20,819 personnel for search, rescue and humanitarian assistance operations, while the Nepal Tourism Board reported the rescue of 289 foreign tourists.
