The Government of the United Kingdom confirmed its intransigent position on the Malvinas Islands by promising an unrestricted defense of its military and administrative presence in the Argentine archipelago, in continuous disregard of United Nations (UN) resolutions demanding an end to the colonial enclave.

During an official intervention on British strategic projection and foreign policy in the South Atlantic, spokespersons for the London administration justified the occupation of Argentine territory by stating that “we will maintain an unrestricted defense of British sovereignty and we will guarantee the military deployment necessary to preserve our presence on the islands”.

The position expressed by the British regime ignores the repeated calls of the UN Decolonization Committee and regional integration mechanisms, which urge the resumption of bilateral negotiations with the Argentine Republic to peacefully resolve the sovereignty dispute.

The maintenance of the Mount Pleasant military base and the constant carrying out of military exercises in the area continue to be denounced by the countries of the region as a destabilizing factor that undermines the status of the South Atlantic as a zone of peace and continental cooperation.
