Access to the social networks TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, X, Threads, Snapchat, Twitch and Kick will be banned for children under 16 in accordance with a measure announced by the UK Government, which considers that it has made “the right decision” to protect children.

The announcement was made by the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, who assured that with this step the nation joins other countries that have already tightened their laws. “Social media makes children unhappy. They facilitate harassment and abuse.”

Starmer said he wants a law to be adopted in Parliament before Christmas so that the ban will take effect early next year, while acknowledging that carrying it out will not be easy, since some technology companies want to make people believe that social networks are immutable.

This measure by the British Government follows in the footsteps of the one approved by Australia in 2025, a nation that became the world's pioneer in setting a similar age limit to protect minors in the digital environment.
