Trump hosts Xi Jinping in Washington for a high-level bilateral summit

The President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, received his counterpart from the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, at the White House this Thursday, as part of a state visit that marks the first official trip of a president of the Asian giant to the US capital in more than a decade.

Upon their arrival, Xi Jinping and the first lady, Peng Liyuan, were welcomed by the American head of state and Melania Trump to begin a series of meetings aimed at redefining the bilateral agenda between the two main economies in the world.

The summit seeks to reduce the geopolitical and commercial tensions that have characterized the recent relationship between the two powers. At the negotiating table, delegations address critical issues such as the control of rare earth supplies, the escalation of friction with respect to Iran, competition in the development of artificial intelligence and the regulation of technological exchange.
