Turkish Red Crescent Denounces Use of Hunger as a Punishment Mechanism in Gaza

The Türkiye Red Crescent publicly denounced that the continued restriction on humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip constitutes the deliberate use of hunger as a mechanism of collective punishment against the Palestinian civilian population.

According to the organization, the obstacle to the entry of food, drinking water and medicines has caused a crisis of severe starvation in the coastal enclave, contravening the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and violating the most basic rights of the inhabitants.

The agency's representatives pointed out that the obstacles imposed on the passage of aid convoys have paralyzed distribution networks in the most affected areas, especially in the north of the territory. The impossibility of deploying relief personnel under minimum security conditions, combined with the widespread shortage of essential items, has resulted in alarming levels of critical malnutrition among children, pregnant women and the elderly who rely exclusively on international aid.

In addition, the humanitarian institution warned of the imminent collapse of the remaining healthcare centers due to the scarcity of medical supplies and the proliferation of pathologies linked to the lack of nutrition and drinking water.

Faced with this scenario, the entity made an urgent call to multilateral organizations to establish permanent health and logistics corridors, allowing the massive and unconditioned entry of the tons of supplies accumulated in neighboring areas.

The Turkish Red Crescent reaffirmed its willingness to maintain operations to ship essential supplies and urged the international community to intervene decisively to stop the instrumentation of the shortage. The agency emphasized that it is imperative to guarantee the comprehensive protection of civilians and respect for first aid work in line with the regulations stipulated in the Geneva Conventions.
