Venezuela advocates sovereign mechanisms and verifiable results in food to FAO

The ambassador and permanent representative of Venezuela to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Marilyn Di Luca Santaella, on behalf of the Bolivarian Government, called for the implementation of monitoring and accountability mechanisms, with the participation of governments and verifiable indicators to evaluate the results and impact of food programs on communities.

Through the Instagram account of the Permanent Representation of Venezuela to the United Nations-Rome, it was reported that Di Luca made the proposal during the tenth informal joint meeting of the governing bodies of FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP), held this September 17 at the headquarters of FAO, in the capital of Italy.

In its message, the diplomatic mission emphasized that “efficiency should not be measured solely by cost reduction, but by sustainable results that strengthen national capacities and contribute to food security and sovereignty, nutrition and the eradication of hunger and poverty.”

In this regard, they pointed out that any coordinated action must respect the sovereignty, leadership of States and national priorities, and that any extension of the collaboration model to new countries must be preceded by the evaluation of initial experiences and must have the consultation and consent of the State concerned.

The Venezuelan diplomat stressed that humanitarian care must be articulated with long-term development policies that strengthen agri-food systems, productive capacities and the resilience of rural communities, according to the publication.
