Venezuela and Chile make progress in reestablishing relations

In accordance with what was agreed on July 30 between the governments of President Delcy Rodríguez and President José Antonio Kast, officials of the Chilean government were received today at the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

The Deputy Minister for Latin America, Mauricio Rodríguez, and the Director of the Office of Consular Relations, Marcos Magallanes, held a working meeting with Ambassador Hernán Núñez, Director General of Consular Affairs of the Chilean Foreign Ministry and with presidential advisor Andrés Jouannet, with the purpose of formalizing the restart of consular relations between the two countries and establishing the road map to follow.

As a first step, there was the exchange of Notes Verbales, which formalized the re-establishment of consular relations and the opening of Consulates General in both capitals. In addition, the two parties agreed on the next steps to be taken to gradually move towards the complete normalization of relations.

This marks the beginning of a new phase in relations between the two countries for the benefit of Venezuelan and Chilean citizens residing in Chile and Venezuela respectively.

The two parties also expressed the interest of their governments to move forward in talks on various topics that allow for greater exchange in trade, investment and cooperation that have a positive impact on the economy of both countries.
