Venezuela and FAO will apply guidelines for the sustainability of small-scale fisheries

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), agreed to draw up a road map focused on strengthening the national fishing and aquaculture sector.

The initiative includes the application of guidelines aimed at the sustainability of small-scale fishing and the exchange of experiences on community governance, through the presentation of the model of fishermen's councils.

The initiatives, as reported by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), take place during the thirty-seventh session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries, which takes place from September 7 to 11 in Rome, with the participation of Venezuelan delegates and directors of the international organization.

The parties also evaluated carrying out a technical mission in the country to identify new areas of cooperation and consolidate a work plan.

The Venezuelan representative pointed out that this model recognizes workers as protagonists of food security and the responsible use of aquatic resources.
