The Minister of People's Power for Science and Technology, Yván Gil, held a meeting in Vienna with the president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Fund for International Development, Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, to strengthen national scientific-technological development and address the impact of climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Through his Telegram channel, Gil highlighted that the Bolivarian Government made “available the capacities of the scientific research and development system in Venezuela to promote joint projects that address various environmental problems.”

He explained that during the conversation they addressed “the impact of climate change on small island states, with special emphasis on the proliferation of sargassum in the Caribbean, which has considerably affected tourism, one of the region's main economic drivers” +.

In this regard, he thanked Dr. Alkhalifa and the OPEC Fund for their commitment to technical and financial collaboration, as well as their willingness to hold follow-up meetings and possible agreements to strengthen regional protection projects.
