Venezuela and Russia boost fishing trade during the 9th World Fisheries Forum in St. Petersburg

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Russian Federation wrote a document to strengthen the exchange of fish and aquaculture products during the 9th World Fisheries Forum in St. Petersburg.

The signing of the alliance was led by members of the Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service and the Venezuelan Ministry of People's Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture, after three years of technical work between the two parties.

The instrument includes a protocol on veterinary and health requirements for the production, transport, storage and marketing of fishery and aquaculture products intended for mutual supply between the two nations.

In addition, the Venezuelan delegation held meetings with representatives of Fish Retail Plus, the Union of Russian Fisheries Industrialists and the logistics company Fesco to evaluate opportunities aimed at the commercialization of domestic fish products, new transport routes and mechanisms to consolidate a secure and sustained exchange.

In addition, meetings were held with delegates from Russian companies specializing in aquaculture, biotechnology and innovation, such as Algotec and Germes, to explore alternatives aimed at modernizing Venezuelan aquaculture activity and the incorporation of new technologies, as well as meetings with members of the Russian Federal Institute for Fisheries and Oceanography Research, to expand scientific cooperation initiated in 2009, promote binational research and strengthen the training of technicians.

The agenda also included possible research projects with the company Proficoll for the use of fishery by-products in the production of collagen and gelatin.
