Venezuela and São Tomé and Príncipe commemorate 20 years of diplomatic relations

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, the Venezuelan ambassador to the Republic of Angola, concurrent with the African nation, Belén Teresa Orsini Pic, held a meeting with Ambassador Alda Quaresma of Assunção Ramos, at the headquarters of the São Tomé diplomatic mission in Luanda.
As part of this significant commemoration, Ambassador Orsini presented to her counterpart a letter signed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Venezuela, Félix Plasencia González, addressed to the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of São Tomé and Príncipe, Ilza Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz, on the occasion of the anniversary.
During the meeting, both diplomats took stock of bilateral ties and reviewed the main areas of cooperation of common interest, highlighting opportunities to continue strengthening ties in education, agriculture, technical cooperation in the field of gender, culture and other areas of common interest, which generate exchanges and joint projects for the benefit of both countries.
They reaffirmed the will of their respective Governments to continue working together to deepen relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation, based on mutual respect, complementarity and the principles of South-South cooperation.
Diplomatic relations between Venezuela and São Tomé and Príncipe were established on August 19, 2006, in the city of São Tomé, through the signing of the corresponding instrument by the then Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Africa of Venezuela, Reinaldo José Bolívar, and the then Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Gustavo dos Anjos. This event marked the formal beginning of a bilateral relationship based on friendship, solidarity and cooperation between both peoples.
