The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Félix Plasencia González, held a telephone call this Saturday with his counterpart from the Republic of Suriname, Melvin Bouva, in which they reaffirmed the commitment of both governments to continue strengthening ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.

“I appreciated the sensitive expressions of solidarity and the support provided by the people and the Government of Suriname to the Venezuelan people, after the double earthquake that occurred last June 24,” Foreign Minister Plasencia said on his social networks.

He indicated that he also thanked his Surinamese counterpart for their congratulations on his recent appointment as head of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

Last Monday, August 4, the Government of President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons sent a plane carrying seven tons of food and personal hygiene items to Venezuela, as part of supporting those affected by the double earthquake.

On the same day, Minister Plasencia González thanked Ambassador Georgette García Elías, for the gesture, on behalf of President Delcy Rodríguez, whom he received in his office and they addressed issues on the bilateral agenda, together with the Deputy Minister for the Caribbean, Raúl Li Causi.
