Venezuela assumed the Presidency of GRULAC at UN-Vienna and reaffirmed its commitment to regional unity

This Wednesday, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela assumed the Presidency of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC) before the International Organizations based in Vienna, a responsibility that it will exercise during the second half of 2026, with the commitment to strengthening regional consultation and promoting coordinated action by the block in defense of the common interests of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the transfer ceremony, Ambassador Claudia Salerno Caldera, permanent representative of Venezuela to International Organizations in Vienna, received the Presidency of the Regional Group from Ambassador Alejandro Garófali Acosta, permanent representative of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. The delegations present expressed their appreciation for the management carried out by Uruguay at the head of the mechanism during the previous semester .

In her words of acceptance, Ambassador Salerno thanked the expressions of solidarity and support received from Latin American and Caribbean countries following the seismic events in Venezuela on June 24, a gesture that stood out as a sign of the spirit of brotherhood and cooperation that characterizes GRULAC.

The diplomat presented the work plan that will guide the Venezuelan Presidency, focused on strengthening political coordination between member States, promoting permanent dialogue and consolidating common positions on the main issues of the multilateral agenda.

In this regard, he announced the holding of working meetings with other regional groups, States and multilateral bodies, with the purpose of exchanging information on issues of common interest, promoting joint initiatives and contributing to a more articulated participation of GRULAC in international organizations based in Vienna.

He also noted that the Venezuelan Presidency will promote the search for consensus around the candidacies presented by the Group, as well as constructive dialogue and understanding during the negotiation of the declarations and initiatives promoted by GRULAC.

The management of Venezuela will also be aimed at projecting the strengths, capacities and contributions of Latin America and the Caribbean in the areas of development, international cooperation, the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, the fight against drugs and crime, inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and the peaceful use of outer space, areas in which Vienna-based agencies play a strategic role.

With this Presidency, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, reaffirms its commitment to strengthening multilateralism, respect for International Law, cooperation between peoples and the unity of Latin America and the Caribbean as fundamental pillars for facing global challenges and moving towards a more just, balanced and truly multipolar.
