The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, reported that Venezuela commemorated World Refugee Day on June 21 and stressed the importance of strengthening international protection for people who are forced to leave their homes for reasons beyond their control.
“Refugees are a testament to the resilience of peoples in their search for a decent life. They are human beings who are forced to abandon their homes and lands due to circumstances they did not choose: wars, violence, persecution, forced displacement, human rights violations, climate catastrophes, among many other reasons,” Gil said through his Telegram channel.
He noted that Venezuela joins the global call for respect and dignity of those who face situations of displacement, and urged the international community to guarantee reception mechanisms that respond to the principles of international law and to the comprehensive protection of refugees.
“Today, on World Refugee Day, Venezuela joins the global outcry for the respect and dignity of all refugees in the world, urging that they be welcomed with the humanity and kindness that we all deserve,” he emphasized.
