Venezuela installed II Meeting with International NGOs to strengthen humanitarian cooperation

With the purpose of consolidating joint work for the benefit of communities affected by the double earthquake, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Félix Plasencia González, led this Wednesday the 1st Meeting with International NGOs.

The activity was attended by the Deputy Ministers for Europe and North America, Oliver Blanco; and Multilateral Issues, Alexander Yánez, together with representatives of the United Nations System and of humanitarian organizations operating in the country.

During the installation, Foreign Minister Plasencia highlighted the resilience of the Venezuelan people and thanked them for the international support received in the face of the situation: “You have had the opportunity to observe a calm country, a country with a committed, committed people, who are also organized and know how to respond to such a difficult situation [...] I thank you for being here, on behalf of President Delcy Rodríguez and the people of Venezuela”.

The UN resident coordinator in Venezuela, Gianluca Rampolla, said that “this is the second meeting we have in this format in the last three weeks, which is significant in terms of how we are working on reality.”

In addition, the general director of the Office of the Social Vice Presidency, Mary Carmen Moreno, emphasized the institutional commitment to the well-being of citizens and highlighted the joint work to address the emergency, stating that “it has been up to us to accompany, saving lives, guaranteeing shelter in the best conditions we can and progressively laying the foundations for what will be a process of reconstruction, of rebirth”.

In addition, Vanessa May Aldana, head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Venezuela, stressed that “this is a group (NGO) that has been working in the South American nation for many years and well, I think that now we are also seeing a fruit of all the work and all the conversation that we have had for years with the national government.”

In the “Simon Bolivar” Hall of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, the humanitarian coordination platforms presented a balance of their deployments in the affected states, confirming their willingness to maintain coordinated multisectoral assistance, focused on immediate care, respect for people's dignity and future phases of recovery and local development.
