Venezuela joins the debate for health in Southern Africa

The ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Namibia and representative to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Magaly Henríquez, participated in the 5th Regional Ministerial Meeting of the Southern African Steering Committee (RESCO), organized by Africa CDC, under the slogan “Advancing health security and sovereignty in Southern Africa”.

The meeting, held in Windhoek, brought together health ministers from several SADC member countries, diplomatic representatives and regional authorities to discuss strengthening national funds, expanding health insurance and accelerating local manufacturing in the healthcare sector.

The inauguration was led by the Minister of Health of Namibia, Esperanza Luvindao, accompanied by the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus, and representatives of the African Union, who stressed the importance of regional and continental cooperation to ensure resilient and sovereign health systems.

Venezuela's participation in this forum reaffirms its commitment to South-South cooperation, the defense of multilateralism and the promotion of joint initiatives that strengthen regional integration and the capacity to respond to common health challenges.

Ambassador Henríquez stressed that the voice of Venezuela joins the efforts of Southern Africa and the African Union to consolidate inclusive and sustainable health policies, for the benefit of peoples and in line with the principles of solidarity and sovereignty.
