Venezuela ratifies its willingness to dialogue and reactivate trade with Colombia in a sovereign way

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela spoke out this Sunday in an official statement in response to statements made by the Vice President of Colombia, José Manuel Restrepo, about the prospects for reactivating bilateral trade between the two nations, during a meeting held with the designated ambassador in Caracas and businessmen from the department of Antioquia.

The Venezuelan Government positively valued the interest of the neighboring nation in reinvigorating exchange relations, reiterating that border cooperation and economic dynamism must be consolidated under the principles of sovereignty, diplomacy, peace and non-interference.

Below is the full text of the statement:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela takes note of the statements issued today by the Vice President of Colombia, José Manuel Restrepo, in the framework of a meeting with the designated Ambassador to Venezuela and businessmen from Antioquia, in which prospects for the reactivation of bilateral trade were discussed.

Venezuela values the interest of the Colombian Government in strengthening ties between the two nations, united by the legacy of the Liberator Simon Bolivar and the brotherhood of our peoples, historically called to understand each other.

However, we reaffirm that any decision on economic management and commercial exchange in Venezuelan territory corresponds exclusively to our constitutional authorities, in full exercise of our sovereignty.

We confirm our willingness to advance an agenda of cooperation and border reactivation, based on mutual respect, non-interference and peace diplomacy, inalienable principles of our foreign policy.

We trust that sincere dialogue will make it possible to build an increasingly beneficial relationship for our sister peoples.
