Venezuela receives 17 tons of humanitarian aid from the Republic of Korea

A shipment with more than 17 tons of humanitarian aid, corresponding to 260 family tents, arrived this Friday in Caracas from the Republic of Korea, as part of the expressions of international solidarity with Venezuela after the earthquakes of last June 24, the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs and International Trade reported.

The reception was held at the Caracas Warehouse, in Catia, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, Andrea Corao; the charge d'affaires of the Republic of Korea in Venezuela, Hansang Lee; the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, María Fernanda Palencia, and the president of the Caracas Storage Company, Yohan González.

Corao stressed that the supplies will help to supply the 108 temporary camps set up by the National Government to treat those affected by the double earthquake.
“We are very grateful. On behalf of President Delcy Rodríguez and Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia, we come to receive these 17 tons of humanitarian aid with open arms,” he said.

The Deputy Minister noted that Venezuela and the Republic of Korea have a 61-year diplomatic relationship and that the country is open to international cooperation. “We are celebrating it in this way, bringing our peoples and our governments together more and more,” he stressed.

For his part, Lee recalled that his government provided 8 million dollars through international organizations for emergency and recovery efforts, and that it has prepared 500 family tents, of which they delivered the first 260. “We know that a tent cannot replace a destroyed house, but it can protect a family from rain and wind,” he said.
