Venezuelan 3×3 basketball team for the deaf makes historic debut at the Serbian World Cup

The Venezuelan 3×3 basketball team with hearing impairment will face an unprecedented challenge by participating in the 3×3 Basketball World Cup for the Deaf, an event organized by the International Basketball Federation for the Deaf (DIBF) that will take place from September 1 to 5 in Zlatibor, Serbia.

In addition, the national team, under the technical direction of José Giménez, is made up of Captain Félix Perdomo together with Jhonny Jiménez, Bryan Catari and Rodrigo Ríos. Prior to the trip, the group completed an intense preparation phase at the Bolivarian Dome of Barquisimeto, where they played several friendly matches against local teams to refine their tactical performance.

In this regard, the Venezuelan team was placed in Group B of the competition, where they will hold demanding commitments against the representatives of Ukraine, Lithuania and Chinese Taipei. The premiere of the national delegation is scheduled for this Tuesday, September 1, with a double day: the first match will be against Ukraine at 3:40 a.m. (Venezuela time), while the second match will face the Venezuelan squad against Lithuania at 9:20 p.m. The group stage will conclude for Venezuela on Wednesday, September 2 with the confrontation against the Chinese Taipei team at 4:00 a.m.

It should be noted that this participation represents an event of great relevance for Venezuelan adapted sports, given that the country was not present in the two previous editions of the competition held in Tel Aviv 2022 and Washington D.C. 2024. The Venezuelan athletes take on this world championship with the precedent of their performance at the Tokyo 2025 Deaf-Olympic Games, an event where they won an outstanding fifth place that served as an impetus for the consolidation of the current sports project.
