Venezuelan delegation in China consolidates progress in the production of fine aroma cacao

The Venezuelan delegation present at the Global Technical Workshop on the One Country, One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative for Special Tropical Agricultural Products, consolidated important advances in the production of fine aromatic cacao.

This event is jointly coordinated by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS).

The national delegation is led by Carmen Virginia Liendo, Deputy Minister for Research and Application of Knowledge and President of the National Center for Cocoa Research, Development and Innovation (CENIDIC).

During the work agenda, the team of Venezuelan specialists participated in training sessions on agroeconomic management, climate resilience and soil conservation applied to the cultivation of cacao, according to the press release of the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology.

The experience has allowed us to learn about the work carried out by the Charoen Pokphand Industrial Park, in Xinglong, in terms of innovations in post-harvest processing and traceability systems.

They also learned about advances in biotechnology at the Genetic Editing Laboratory and phenotyping facilities at the Nanfan National Institute (CAAS), the State Key Laboratory for Tropical Crop Improvement and the Global Base for the Introduction of Animal and Plant Germplasmic Resources on Moon Island.

The Venezuelan delegation participated in working tables and interactive sessions to refine national action plans (OCOP Country Workplans), addressing implementation priorities, indicative budgets and South-South cooperation mechanisms with expert feedback from FAO and China.

This exchange is essential to continue promoting science, genetic sovereignty and the positioning of Venezuelan cacao in the world.
