Venezuelan women's hockey goes to semifinals against Cuba at Central American Games

The women's field hockey team fell 6-2 to Mexico in the last home run game of the Central American and Caribbean Games 2026, and placed second in group A for the semifinal, where they will clash with Cuba.

Venezuela started at the top of the scoreboard with a goal from Carla Beltrán, with a minute and a half left in the first period. For the second stage, Patricia Mujica put the game 2-0 after subtracting 12:40 from the match, but the Mexicans took the initiative, besieged the rival area and tied the game.

After halftime, the Aztecs turned the score around with a score from Valeria Espinoza (13:41). And, finally, during the closing of the crossing, they extended the difference with three more targets by Sofía Pérez, Mitzi Aguilera and Mayra Lacheño, to seal the semifinals in group A.

Despite this adverse result, the Criollas scored second in the top four round with six points, after previously beating Puerto Rico 4-1 and the Dominican Republic 6-3. The next challenge will be on Saturday against the Cubans in the Parque del Este in Santo Domingo.
