Vietnam asks the UN for an equitable global order based on respect for sovereignty

The President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Tom Lam, called at the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) for a new democratic and equitable international order where the self-determination of peoples is respected and there is no room for interference.

During his speech, he explained that the organization emerged with the aspiration of avoiding wars, promoting peace and basing international relations on cooperation and the mutual benefit of nations.

“We want a more equitable and democratic order, in which all countries have a voice and each nation has the opportunity to develop. The mission of our generation is to manage change so that competition does not turn into confrontation, differences do not lead to conflict and scientific advances do not generate new divisions,” he emphasized.

To achieve this vision, the President of Vietnam proposed four fundamental priorities, including the restoration of trust and international law, as well as translating international agreements into concrete actions that guarantee peace, security, the dignity of the people and respect for human rights.

“Restoring trust between nations based on respect for the UN Charter and international law, since they are the basis of international order. States must respect independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and the right to choose their path of development; other countries must not interfere in their internal affairs and not threaten the use of force,” said Lam.

Nauru demands respect for sovereignty from the UN

For his part, the President of the Republic of Nauru, David Ranibok Adeang, stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of each nation, while stating that international cooperation does not require an absolute ideological coincidence, but rather mutual respect in areas of common interest.

He urged global powers to move from discourse to concrete action to restore credibility to the multilateral system: “Trust is restored when promises are kept and transformation is managed when decisions reach the little ones. I don't ask this Assembly for more words, but that we don't have to wait any longer,” he said.
