Weightlifter Ángel Rodríguez breaks nine records in South American weightlifting Guayaquil 2026

The Venezuelan weightlifter Ángel Rodríguez recorded the most outstanding performance of the South American and Pan-American Weightlifting Championships, breaking nine national and international records and winning nine gold medals, during the third day of the event held in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Popular Power for Sports, Rodríguez, the U20 world champion in Egypt 2026, competed in the 85 kg division, where he established new brands starting with 166 kg, in a pack with 193 kg and a total of 359 kg. At just 19 years old, the Monaguense won the golds in the youth and adult categories of the South American, as well as the Pan-American category.

Keydomar Vallenilla, Olympic runner-up in Tokyo 2020, won 95 kg with two starting gold medals (170 kg), two silver medals (206 kg) and a gold double in total with 376 kg. Keily Silva completed the day with three gold medals in the 77 kg division, after lifting 106 kg at the start, 122 kg at the start and 228 kg in total.

Venezuela closed the penultimate date with 24 medals: 16 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze. The final day will be played this Sunday with the participation of Jeyson Arias, Mauricio Loaiza and Luis Espinosa in the category of more than 110 kg.
