At least three deceased mining workers were left behind the collapse of an underground mine in the Atacama region of northern Chile.
The information was confirmed by the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED), which detailed that the death of the three mining workers was the result of a landslide that occurred about 100 meters from the entrance of the underground mine.
The accident occurred at the Jesús María mine, in the commune of Copiapó, about 800 kilometers north of the city of Santiago, in the desert region of Atacama. Preliminarily, it was announced that the accident occurred due to a structural fire that originated inside the mine, although the authorities have initiated the corresponding investigation to clarify the causes, according to the Xinhua agency.
Local press reports indicate that the deceased
workers were of Chilean nationality and were 64, 69 and
75 years old.
