The Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) forecasts possible episodes of heavy rains in the country between December 2026 and February 2027, with special attention in the western region.
In a press release, the head of the Center for the Study of the Global Environmental Crisis of the IVIC, Carlos Méndez, pointed out that factors such as global warming and a possible intensification of the El Niño phenomenon could alter the usual patterns of precipitation and temperature in the country.
The projections contemplate the possibility of a rainfall deficit during the first phase of the evaluated period, followed by an increase in rainfall. These variations could create additional challenges for the management of water resources and the prevention of risks associated with meteorological events.
The researchers also warned about the effects of thermal stress on human health, ecosystems and agricultural production, as well as about the possible repercussions of climate change on water supply systems and hydroelectric infrastructure.
