More than 6 thousand teams in the country participate in the XIX National Student Sports Games

This Wednesday, the intercourses phase of the XIX National Student Sports Games was inaugurated throughout the country, an event that brings together 6,600 educational institutions in Venezuela and two million students from March 26 to April 21, said the Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez.

From the José Ávalos Bolivarian High School, in the parish of El Valle, in Caracas, Rodríguez welcomed student athletes, as well as all the work teams from the ministries of Education, Sports, the Mayor's Office of Caracas, the head of the Capital District, the organized community and at all levels of government.

According to a press release from the Education portfolio, this edition of school sports games has as its main objective the massification and inclusion of students enrolled in educational institutions in the country, whether public, private or subsidized belonging to the basic education subsystem, at the levels of Primary, Middle, General Technical and Special Education, in the corresponding categories and genres.

“Today we are kicking off student games across Venezuela. There are 6,600 educational institutions that will participate in all municipal phases in more than 20 disciplines. We are going to work on all the sports together that can be worked on the multiple courts that schools have, we are going to work on athletics in an adapted way, we are going to work on several fight and combat sports,” said Rodríguez in the company of the Minister of Sport, Franklin Cardillo.

He added: “This is part of a dynamic that goes in several directions, the first direction is to continue recovering and improving Venezuelan education, which, as you know, like many elements of the country, has suffered serious difficulties for several reasons, in the case of education, one of them is Covid.”

Rodríguez explained that the first semesters of each year student games must take place, and emphasized that these sporting events are part of a national sports policy that contemplates three aspects to keep active: the national games, the communal games -which will be held in the second semesters of each year in the 5,338 communal and communal circuits- and thirdly, the physical activity and recreation committees.

In addition, Rodríguez indicated that the XIX National Student Sports Games allow sports overcrowding, but also the positive use of boys' time, generates values, respect for the rules of the game, teamwork and respect for the authorities.

Volleyball, basketball, athletics, handball, table tennis, rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, judo, karate, chess and baseball are some of the disciplines that will be played in this sports edition.

The XIX National Student Sports Games have several phases: the intercourses, the parish, the municipal and the state.
