President (e) Delcy Rodríguez: Venezuela must assume its seismic culture and adapt construction protocols

This Tuesday, the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, led the inspection of the comprehensive operation of the temporary camp installed in the Caracas Polyhedron, intended for the care of families affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.

During the tour, the dignitary announced the updating of national building regulations and the promotion of private participation to increase the availability of housing solutions in the country.

In his statements, Rodríguez highlighted the need to articulate all sectors to respond more quickly to the contingency. “We must guarantee greater availability of housing for the Venezuelan people to access, adding greater flows of private investment to the effort being made by the State to build new housing and enable the affected infrastructures,” said the senior official, referring to the care of buildings classified according to risk levels.

In addition, the president in charge specified the progress achieved by the evaluation teams in the field. “We have already done more than 61,000 inspections, of which 11,000 homes are at red lights; we are once again inspecting those red ones because we have to be very sure of which ones can actually be recovered,” he said.

In that sense, he ratified that "Venezuela is a seismic country, we must assume it, we must have a culture of a seismic country and construction regulations and protocols must be adapted to this reality”.

The dignitary in charge argued that the application of these technical schemes will allow for standards that are “more efficient and that better protect the population against earthquakes”, combining building safety with the gradual assignment of decent roofs.
